This workshop, organized by Black History Months Milano in collaboration with Delali Cofie, is designed for photographers, artists, and creatives, as well as anyone curious about photography and the artistic journey. Whether you are an emerging photographer, a visual artist expanding your practice, or simply someone interested in how an artist develops their work and navigates the creative field, this session offers a unique opportunity to engage with
Delali Cofie’s perspective.

Delali’s work explores personal and collective histories, using photography to examine themes of memory, archives, and representation. Through this workshop, he will share insights into his conceptual and technical approach, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the journey of his practice – from the initial vision to the final image. Participants will gain insight into his creative process and the choices that shape his work.

Bio

Black History Months Milano (BHMM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing Afro, Afro-descendant, and African cultures in Italy. Through events, workshops, exhibitions, and international collaborations, it creates spaces for dialogue, exchange, and visibility for artists, writers, and creatives. BHMM aims to build a cultural network that celebrates “Blackness” as a vital creative and cultural force, fostering a deeper understanding of Afro-descendant heritage and its impact on contemporary society.

Delali Cofie is a Ghanaian-Nigerian photographer currently living in Toronto, Canada. Through storytelling he engages in multiple genres of photography such as fine art, documentary, and fashion. His personal work presents subtle beauty whilst exploring themes of self-formation and the process of becoming. Frequently creating work between his native city Accra and current city Toronto, his work tells a tale of two cities, linked by a diasporic thread. Recent exhibitions include It comes to me in waves at Patel Brown, Toronto (2024), Shedding Heaviness at Gallery 44, Toronto (2024) and Family First at the Black Art Centre, Surrey (2024). In 2022 his work was featured in legendary Ghanaian photographer James Barnor’s exhibition catalogue at the Arles Photography Festival. He is a recent graduate of OCAD University, where he was the recipient of multiple program awards including the Barbara Astman and Peter Sramek photography awards, and the OCAD U Medal.
